REPLANTING
Replanting of Rubber in Estates
The first plantations of the company
was undertaken during 1972 by the Scheme and the company completed the planting
of balance area of estates with rubber by 1978. The economical life of rubber
is 32 years and hence the replanting in company’s estates should have been
undertaken only by 2004. However the company has a social commitment of
providing employment to repatriates workers by utilizing maximum processing
facilities available in factories.
Hence in consultation with Rubber Board it was decided to go for earlier
replanting ahead of normal schedule restricting the replanted area every year
to around 150 hectares and to regulate the bark consumption of trees in the
replanting area accordingly. The project report for replanting with total
outlay of rupees five thousand three hundred and fifty nine lakhs (5359) was
prepared during 1999 and the same was approved by the company and Government of
Kerala for implementation. The nursery operations of the project started during
the year 1999 and first planting as per schedule approved by Rubber Board, was
undertaken in the company’s estates during 2001.
